Music

Music was a big part of Spike Milligan's life, and this was reflected in the shows, which were full of atmospheric incedental music, theme tunes, music hall stings and audio gags. The house band was a swinging and versatile combination of the Wally Stott Orchestra and the Ray Ellington Quartet.

Most shows also had two musical interludes - brilliant arrangements of jazz standards, cocktail music, rock'n'roll, show tunes, latin & calypso and other tunes of the era. The first interlude featured Max Geldray, a fantastic Dutch harmonica player, and the second featured the smooth tones of Ray Ellington on vocals. Ellington also played a few occasional characters (Gladys / various tribal chiefs etc.)

Max Geldray - Brazil. From The Sinking Of Westminster Pier (1955).

Ray Ellington - Is This The Way? From The Moon Show (1957).
